What I do

I now live in the astounding Butte, Montana and am a historic property developer. My business partner and I purchase historic, distressed properties and through adaptive reuse restore their character. Put another way: We fix cool old buildings and lease them to private residents and small businesses.

My mid-life crisis

In honesty, it is more joke than reality. Though it is true that before I moved I was an unemployed, uninspired, directionless soul who had barely graduated college and was slow bleeding and inheritance. I don’t have all the crisis hallmarks such as the impractical sports car, the trophy girlfriend, the child support payments and bitter ex-wife. However: I did move far away from any place I had known, on little more than a lark, to try my hand at something I knew nothing about. It’s been an excellent choice so far, proving that sometimes its better to be lucky than smart; and better yet to be both.

Butte, Montana

Butte, Montana is not for everyone, specifically the fussy, the weak, and those who like government babysitting. However if you feel that "rugged individualism" is what made this country great then Butte is the "last best place". My apologies to authors of those quotes. Butte is a once in a lifetime mix of liberty and opportunity. Suffice it to say I am enjoying my new adopted home tremendously.

What’s next?

I moved in November of 2004 and have been working with my business partner to build the business. By the end of the year we will have roughly 16 properties constituting 40 or so units. We would like to expand at least 50% more and sooner would be better than later. I also have a small web-design company. I’ve had it for 4 years now servicing only two clients. Now that the property development company is in better shape this is an excellent time to focus on growing my web-development customer base and completing some long-awaited core infrastructure projects.

Personal Goals

I’m accepting applications for Mrs. Detjens. She would be intelligent, educated, articulate, attractive, and sensual. She’ll need to put up with my INTP/INTJ personality. Don’t allow my brashness to throw you; I’m the silent type. Mrs. Detjens will also need to love my pets. As it stands now I have two cats, some fish and a big slobbery dog. Anyone who doesn’t love my dog is of clearly weak moral fiber.

Whats here?

MikeAbleXray is a niche website. It isn’t intended for everyone. In truth it is only for those rare few who have made my acquaintance and are interested in a bit more Max. The MikeAbleXray name is a phonetic spelling of my name Max in an old army phonetic alphabet. It has become my default username, and now a convenient domain name. (Though maxdetjens.com also works). -Enjoy
